PG Skills - Day 4

The Warm-up:

  1. Ball overhead squats x10

  2. Side lunge ball wrap around - Right x10

  3. Side lunge ball wrap around - Left x10

  4. Ball-to-ground squat jumps x10

  5. Ball push-ups x10

  6. Ball plank 30 sec

  7. Dribble sit-ups - Left-hand x10

  8. Dribble sit-ups - Right-hand x10

  9. Ball overhead lunge jumps x20

  10. Basketball in hand burpees x20


Dribbling drills

  1. Stationary dribbling, head up, 30 sec per move, then switch hands

    • High pounds - R/L hand

    • Low pounds - R/L hand

    • Crossover - Wide/Narrow

    • V dribble - side to side, forward-back w/ R/L hand

    • Hang/hesi/pocket dribble

  2. Dribbling while walking forward to half-court

    • Crossover, BTL combo

    • Cross, BTB combo

    • Cross, BTL, BTB comdination


Passing Drills

  • Stand with a player or the wall 10’ to your left. Make a 2-handed chest pass after the following stationary dribble moves:

    • Crossover x2, pass; cross x3, pass; cross x4, pass; cross x5, pass

    • BTL x2 , pass; BTL x3, pass; BTL x4, pass; BTL x5, pass

    • BTB x2 , pass; BTB x3, pass; BTB x4, pass; BTB x5, pass

    • Do the same passing to the right

  • Stand with a player or the wall 6-10’ in front of you. Make a 1-handed bounce pass after the same stationary dribble moves:

    • Crossover x2, pass; cross x3, pass; cross x4, pass; cross x5, pass

    • BTL x2 , pass; BTL x3, pass; BTL x4, pass; BTL x5, pass

    • BTB x2 , pass; BTB x3, pass; BTB x4, pass; BTB x5, pass

With another person, you can also start honing your decision-making skills with this drill.

  1. Start with the ball on the R elbow, while your partner/defender is at the L elbow.

  2. Slap the ball and drive to the basket.

  3. On the slap of the ball, the player at the opposite elbow either runs to defend your lay-up or cuts to the hoop for a pass.

  4. The player with the ball has to decide to finish over the defense or pass depending on what the other player decides.

  5. Switch sides to drive or pass from the L elbow with the other player starting on the R.


Finishing drills

  1. One-hand finishes - dribble around the key from L block to L elbow to R elbow to R lay-up all with R-hand. Do the opposite with L-hand.

  2. Mikan and reverse Mikan drill

  3. Goofy/awkward lay-ups - R and L-hand

    • Wrong foot

    • Inside hand

    • High-off-glass

    • Scoop lay-up

    • Middle finish reaching to the side

  4. Finishing against a defender (if possible), start at R elbow - make 2 in a row

    • Outside foot, outside hand w/ defender on hip

    • Swerve finish - bump defender towards middle then finish on both sides 

    • Runner - one-foot jump

    • Circle under the hoop reverse lay-up

    • Repeat from the opposite elbow


Shooting drills

  1. Form shooting: 5’, 10’, 15’

  2. Elbow curl (catch and shoot or dribble and shoot)

  3. Shot fake, rip through, 1 dribble shoot going R and L

  4. Full-speed baseline 3-pt spot up, catch and shoot - R and L

  5. High bounce, catch-and-shoot 3's R/L wing

  6. Dribble combo pull-ups

    • Cross x2, shoot

    • Cross, BTL, shoot

    • Cross, BTL, BTB, shoot
