Playing the “Post”
Introduction: The death of the post-up???
Does anyone post up anymore?
Today’s game is more about taking your man off the dribble one on one so that you make sports center than about the old, reliable drop set that can be nearly unstoppable and probably has accounted for far more points than highlight reel ankle breakers.
Certainly, at the high school and youth sports level, where most points are scored around the basket, a great post player can quietly score half the team’s points.
When talking about a great post-up player, I’m not strictly talking about traditional big men or centers. The NBA has had many guards who could abuse defenders in the post.
For that reason, this program is not just for power forwards and centers (if those positions still exist). These skills are for all 5 positions. These moves can help any player score more points from the baseline, wing, elbow, or high post.
This program will teach you to score from 3 back to the basket spots:
The traditional low post on or near the block.
The high post area, is increasingly used as the hub of the offense.
The wing or mid-post, where skilled players can back defenders down to get whatever shot they want.
Don’t underestimate these killer post moves!!! Good footwork can lead to easy buckets.
Didn’t believe me?
See, SI. Agrees!!!
So you want to up your post game???
Look no further than the GOAT of the POST!!!
Widely regarded as the greatest post player of all time, Hakeem Olajuwon, not only has some of the best moves in history, he also went on to coach some of the greats.
Before you up your post game, better check your character. Do you want it? Will you put in the extra reps? Will you be ok failing over and over again trying to learn new footwork?
As Hakeem says, it is all up to you.
You have to put in the reps AND you need to record your progress. The workouts below will only be successful if YOU put in the work and YOU record your progress.
